Probuild360 were delighted to host West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street and Lord Digby Jones for the ‘Changing Face of the Midlands’ event at our industry-leading head office and showroom in Birmingham. Over 130 guests, to include councillors, award-winning architects, developers, lawyers, CEO’s and investors from across the entire Midlands region, attended to hear the Mayor deliver an impactful address that set the scene for the West Midlands to be viewed as ‘The New Growth Capital of the UK’.
The Mayor’s presentation was divided into three areas; Regional Renaissance; Our Plan for Growth and Housing and Investment.
From the areas global investment in sport to ‘rebuilding the Midlands international reputation’, the audience reacted positively to news on the investment in transport with work starting on new stations as well as news for the housing market, with 215k new homes by 2030 and some £610m in funds to enable this which will come from a combination of five sources to include; the Land and Property Investment Fund, Brownfield Land and Property Development Fund and Housing Deal: Housing Infrastructure Fund.
As former head of retailer John Lewis, the Mayor also touched on supporting our Town Centres as well as outlining the significant investment opportunities that exist across the area.
Following the address, Lord Digby Jones lead the way on what was a lively Q&A. Topics raised by the audience included; the effect Brexit might have on the plan for growth; questions over the benefit of HS2 to the area as well as how funds secured from central government might be allocated going forward.
